Wong's Garden is a down-to-earth Chinese and seafood restaurant located just off SE Oak Street in Portland's southeast neighborhood. This spot leans into straightforward, familiar flavors served in generous portions, making it a comfortable choice for families, groups, and anyone looking to fulfill classic Chinese food cravings without fuss.

Inside, the atmosphere is casual and practical—think practical seating that suits both quick solo lunches and relaxed family dinners. It's not designed for a romantic night out but rather for reliable meals where the focus is on hearty, freshly made dishes. Locals often drop in for filling entrees like their beef fried rice or half-orders of sweet and sour chicken. Vegetable options like kung pao tofu and chow mein are also available, catering well to those looking for lighter or plant-based fare.

The staff here stand out for their friendliness, often taking the time to chat despite the steady pace of orders. This approachable service adds a welcoming layer to the dining experience, especially appreciated when waiting for freshly cooked meals. Jasmine tea is a common accompaniment, smoothing out the meal with its familiar warmth.

Parking can occasionally be a bit tight, given the restaurant’s popularity and location near the expressway, but the convenience of quick access balances that out. Many patrons opt for takeout, making Wong's Garden a practical stop for busy weeknights or low-key weekend dinners.

The place fits naturally into SE Portland's mix of local spots where people crave comfort food done right—without the fuss. It's a solid pick if you're after solid, no-surprise Chinese classics, shareable plates like vegetable spring rolls, or a large meal to satisfy hungry appetites in a straightforward setting.

I got the chicken fried rice and it was very good. The employees were all incredibly kind and friendly, they went out of their way to make conversation with me while I waited for my food- I appreciated that a lot! The food itself was delicious, hot, and fresh. A big portion for the price. I’m super happy with my experience here today and I’ll be recommending this place to friends in the future!

I have never experienced anything even close to wong’s flaky layers. From the spring rolls to the fried shrimp the golden fried crusts are to die for.
